How Do I Play A Turbo Tournament?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The turbo tournament requires different skills to other tournaments. Firstly, you need to be able to play aggressively. The shortened time frame and the increased blinds make this an extremely competitive and fast paced version of poker. This means that you should not only play premium hands, as you may be blinded out before you even get a crack at the pot. The initial hands are vital as you need to double or triple your chip stack as soon as possible to be able to cope with the weighty blinds. This is particularly important with a freeze out tournament as you only get the one chance. If you are playing a rebuy turbo tournament, you can always rebuy if you make a mistake. You are also at an advantage if you are able to read pot odds very quickly; this helps to make sure that your call is worth it. Also, you need to take notice of your opponents very carefully as extra bluffing is usually rife in turbo tournaments due to the necessity to raise the chip stack in a short space of time.
