Answer Question

Southampton Football Club was founded in 1885, although the team was originally known as St Marys Church Young Mens Association (YMA) as the players were part of the church. This is the reason that Southampton Football Club's nickname is still 'the Saints'.

Southampton Football Club played their home games at the ground of The Dell from 1898 until 2001 when they moved to the newly built St Mary's Stadium which has a capacity for over 32,000 people.

Southampton FC's greatest triumph was winning the FA cup in a final against Manchester United in 1976.

A famous local rivalry exists between Southampton and their neighbours Portsmouth.
This has been made worse of late, due to the manager Harry Redknapp. Redknapp was manager of Portsmouth between 2001 and 2004. When he left Portsmouth for a 'break from the game', he almost immediately took up a position with Southampton. After a year at Southampton, he returned to Portsmouth in December 2005.

Southampton currently reside in the Championship division. They finished in 12th place in the 2005/06 season.
