What Is There To See And Do In Budapest's City Park?

Answer Question

The Budapest City Park (Városliget) is a vast expanse of green space, comprising more than 302 acres, near the centre of Budapest. This is the location of several outdoor events and festivals throughout the spring and summer. Perhaps the most notable of these are the May Day celebrations, held on 1 May of each year.

The City Park is well worth a visit if you are spending a few days in Budapest. At the park's entrance is Heroes' Square, a World Heritage site, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts (opened in 1906) and the Palace of Art (opened in 1895).

The City Park is home to a circus, Budapest's main city zoo and an amusement park. This is where you will also find one of Europe's most famous thermal baths, namely the Széchényi, which was first opened in 1913. There is also an artificial pond at the centre of the park and it is possible to rent paddle boats on a per hour basis.

The best access to the Városliget is by taking the M1 metro line (also called the millenial underground). Be sure, however, not to confuse the Városliget with the city's other major park, located not too far away, called "Népliget," or the People's Park.
