What Is Ardastra Zoo And Gardens?

Ardastra Zoo and Gardens is a zoo, botanical gardens and conservation centre complex situated in Nassau, Bahamas. The zoo contains birds and animals from the Bahamas and around the world, and can be easily reached by bus. Watch out for the pot bellied pig that roams free, and the pygmy goat enclosure; once you go in they seem to block the exit and stubbornly stay put, much to the amusement of your companions!

There is a flamingo show where a man manages to control the flamingos, getting them to respond to his commands and march in formation, with volunteers chosen. There is also a parrot training enclosure where you can train wild parrots to come and feed from your hand. They are bright and beautiful but definitely wild so make sure you follow the instructor's advice.

The gardens are landscaped beautifully, and contain many varieties that will seldom be seen elsewhere such as the Shaving Brush Tree. Although it is small, it is worth a visit as it ensures that the conservation projects can continue. The gardens themselves are very exposed and so make sure you take sufficient head and skin coverage as the temperature soars.
