The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is composed of four main sections: Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing proficency. Offered in an internet-based or computer based format at approved testing centers.

The purpose of the test is to assess the ability and skills of foreign students to communicate effectively and efficiently, in a setting where Standard American English is the language used on college and university campuses.

The test is available in countries around the world. It is recommended that students whose native language is not English take the test at the 11th grade and above levels.

The computer based test measures: Listening, Structure, Reading and Writing and the Paper-based test measures: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression,
    and Reading Comprehension.

Not every college and university requires the TOEFL test for admission, so it is always good to check with the school before seeking admission.
