There are many reasons why people set rules for themselves. Some people set rules for themselves in order to help them lose weight, some people set rules for themselves in order to help them give up a bad habit (such as addiction to drugs, alcohol or tobacco) and other people set rules for themselves in order to concentrate better and put in more effort into whatever they are doing, be it in their education or at work.
It does not require much effort to set rules for yourself. You only have to pinpoint your main weakness and list down a set a set of do's and don'ts that you must follow in order to achieve the set objectives. However, it requires great willpower on the individual's part to follow the rules and not break them.
