Lexington in Kentucky offers a real taste of Kentucky life and a chance to take in culture or just get back to nature.
Here are 5 things you must to do:
1. Visit the Lexington History Museum at West Main Street. This was formerly the Fayette County Courthouse, but is now a treasured museum with fantastic exhibits, some of which are quite unusual and include many from the African American community.
2. Spend a day at the Kentucky Horse Park. This is a centre unlike any other. It has a range of museums, galleries and theatres all at one location. There are even 50 breeds of horses living here and the centre is spread over 1200 acres. Not to be missed.
3. Have a ball tasting wine and learning more about wines at the Jean Farris Winery on Old Richmond Road. Here you can taste wines, have a tour of the winery and buy some wines. Complemented by a bistro this offers a really interesting day out.
4. Have a visit to the Farmers Market which happens every Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursdays at various locations. They are indoor during the winter (and less frequent) but outdoors during the other seasons and a great place to see all the different produce and the wide range of farm produced goods.
5. Take in the Aviation Museum of Kentucky on Hangar Drive. This has some fabulous exhibits and the size and shapes of the aircraft (such as the Crosley Moonbeam Bi-Plane) will simply stun you.
