What Is A Dust Mite?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Dust mites actually belong to the same family as spiders and ticks, but since they are very small in size, they cannot be seen with the naked eye. Their diet consists of the dead skin from humans and animals. Their waste is the second largest cause of allergies and asthma (after pollen).

Dust mites generally congregate in warm, humid dusty areas. It is impossible to eliminate every dust mite, but you can lower their numbers significantly. It is preferable to reduce if not eliminate rugs and carpets and clean them out frequently. Most dust mites live in bedding, curtains, pillows and all upholstery and therefore must be vacuumed regularly. The house should be well ventilated, and humidity levels should be reduced. There are no pesticides for dust mites, but for those who are extremely allergic to them, Acarosan and Allergy Control Solution could be useful.
