DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid (which just relates to its structure). DNA is basically what makes you, you. DNA is present in every cell in your body, in an area called the nucleus (except red blood cells which don't have nuclei). DNAs main role is to store information, in the form of genes.
DNA is a known as a double helix structure, which means its two long strands connected, and twisted round each other. Its made of things called nucleotides. Each Nucleotides contains one of four types of bases, either A, G, T, C. In the double helix structure, nucleotides will join together according to the types of bases. These join in pairs, and form the chain of the DNA. Its the order of the bases on the nucleotides that code information in the form of genes. The information that is coded here determines from what colour eyes you have, to the proteins that are made throughout your body, and ultimately keep you alive, and determine who you are. DNA is hugely important in medicine, since just one error, or one letter in the hugely, hugely long code out of place can have huge effects, on any part of your body in any process.
