Well technically it all varies on the company; they may have the ttle of receptionist but actually be more of a secretary. I believe I've been something of a receptionist myself, just as much as the people who work switchboards upstairs.
What I've seen and done are:
1. Greeting those who enter the building and/or room
2. Transferring phone calls to the building
3. Collecting mail for the building
4. Sending out faxes for the building (if necessary)
5. Answering phones (have to for 2 to happen)
