If An Airline Advertises An Airplane Ticket As Being £0, Will I Really Be Travelling For Free?

The answer to this question is a resounding "no." Several discount, no-frills airlines--such as easyJet, Wizz Air and SkyEurope-- have at one point or another advertised airplane tickets on select flights as being as low as £0. Although this might sound very enticing and while you will probably get a good deal on the airfare, your trip will be far from free. The reason for this is that you will be expected to pay all taxes, petrol and security surcharges, as well as booking fees when you purchase your ticket online, at the airline's website.

The most recent example of airfare advertised at £0 was a special available through Wizz Air's website, a low-cost carrier based in East/Central Europe. For example, a round-trip ticket from Budapest to Bucharest was advertised as £0. In reality, however, once the taxes and booking fees were added, the real price became closer to £30. Round-trip fares to Warsaw, also advertised at £0, rose to about £28 after all taxes and surcharges were added. Although these are still good deals, one must always be careful not to be fooled by clever marketing.
