What Is The Largest Travelling Funfair In Europe?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Hull Fair, which occurs for one week at the beginning of October, is the largest travelling fair in Europe. It was founded by the Abbot of Meaux in 1293 six years before Kings Town Upon Hull's official royal charter was granted. It was postponed during the First and Second World Wars, the latter of which resulted in nightly bombardments on the city by the German Luftwaffe. Today, the fair is held on a 16 –acre site on Walton Street and a large adjacent car park near to the Kingston Communications Stadium. It involves over 250 attractions ranging from children's rides, side stalls, games, traditional rides and the latest up to date hair-razing rides. The famous stalls lining Walton Street are filled with all the smells you would expect, from chips, hamburgers, onions, candy floss and brandy snap, to name but a few. Father Christmas usually makes an incredibly early appearance and the latest craze is often represented. The people of Hull very much look forward to the yearly return of the fair, which attracts around a million people a year.
