How Do I Build A Remote Control Buggy From Scratch, Without Buying A Complete Kit?

This depends how far you want to go down the scratch-build route. I'd assume that you will need to buy RC (Radio Control) equipment, electric motor, batteries and wheels.
This competition sounds fun - are you intending to buy the basic parts and let the competitors decide how to build a buggy from them? There's a TV program where two teams of grown-ups are dumped in a salvage yard and told to make something (or solve some problem); are you thinking of a small-scale of this, or a Robot Wars kind of competition?
This is quite a wide-ranging question. You should start a Blurtit group on this, put your initial thoughts together there, and other people (myself included) will contribute too.
