Are Pocket Bikes Temperamental And Do They Take A Lot Of Work To Maintain?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Maintenance of a pocket bike is straight-forward and does not require great mechanical expertise. The key is to repeat the routine faithfully at regular intervals.

    1. Always ensure tyres are at the correct pressure. Running them too soft will increase wear on the outside edges. Too hard and tyres will wear unevenly in the centre. Keeping tyres at the optimum pressure will not only help reduce wear, it will also improve handling and safety.

    2. Read carefully the manufacturer's recommendations on petrol/oil mix ratios. This will optimise performance and handling, and greatly reduce the risk of engine damage.

    3. Extend the life of brake pads by braking gently and in plenty of time. Sharp or violent braking knocks miles off a set of brake pads, particularly the rear ones.

    4. Learn how to clean, replace and set your spark plug, to set your chain tension and check and change your fluids.

    5. At regular intervals check and clean the air filter and carburretor and ensure both are securely fastened.

    6. Check that bolts have not worked themselves loose. Prone to become slack are head nuts, exhaust bolts, sprocket bolts, body panels, and foot pegs. Tighten if necessary.
