Were Does The Name Mc Leod Come From?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

This name originally Scottish in origin, was first seen in  Charlestown, South Carolina.
The origin seems to have been traced back to a James Island in South Carolina, where there is a plantation of the same name. The plantation was ill fated, however as the cotton crop never got off the ground.
There was a famous plantation owner James Mcleod, who seems to have brought this name into popular usage.
The name is normally pronounced to rhyme with cloud,  and is found all over America now.
