What Is The Poisson Probability Distribution?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

    A random variable X has a Poisson distribution, and is referred to as a Poisson random variable, if and only if its probability distribution is;

    P(x,  k) = e-k * kx / x!  For x = 0, 1, 2, ..., infinity

    e = exponential constant

    k= mean

    The probability of success is very small in a Poisson distribution that is p < 0.10. The sample size is very large in Poisson distribution. In Poisson process, the parameter 'k' is the expected number of successes in a specified unit of time or length of space. The number of occurrence X in a given interval of time 't' is called a Poisson random variable with parameter k=Population mean * t.
