Who Did Jimmy Carter Call The Robert Redford Of India?

Jimmy Carter had introduced the veteran Indian actor Sunil Dutt to the American Media as the Robert Redford of Indian Cinema. The Carter family was very close to the Dutt family in India. In the year 1978 President Jimmy Carter paid an official visit to India along with his wife on an official visit. Even though the government of Morarji Desai was aware of the friendship between Sunil Dutt's family and that of the Carters they did not include the Dutts as a part of the official visit.

President Carter's wife Rosalynn Carter called the Dutts in Bombay and invited them to Delhi. Sunil Dutt and his wife had also visited the Carters in Georgia before the President was elected. Sunil Dutt knew the Carter family from the days Jimmy Carter's mother Lilian Carter who used to stay in India and work at Bombay's Godrej Hospital in Vikhroli.
