The concept of the 'Bermuda Triangle' was not yet formed when Chris went though there. Still half of the lands and islands in that area, had not yet been recognized, by Europe.

According to his diary entry, in one page it is written that he has encountered bermuda triangle, he had written that, he has experienced some thing strange that, he had never experienced, his cumpas was not remaining steady, it was rotating in both directions, and he had even written that he had seen some huge globe of light which came from sky and disappeared into water. Viewing this he decided to change the way.

We can say he and his members were first seen the bermuda triangles.
