What Are The Qualities Of A Good Hummingbird Feeder? What Are These Feeders Made Of?

This is a very interesting question, and very important for hummingbird enthusiasts especially those who are novice.

A good hummingbird feeder will always be well-built, robust and easy to clean. It will consist of minimum number of parts that can be lost or broken. Hummingbird feeders are found in variety of sizes and made up of different materials. Some of the materials which are used to make these feeders are plastic and glass. Both of these materials have their advantages and disadvantages. First I will discuss glass; glass feeders have an aesthetic value. They look beautiful when hanging outside. They are sturdy and strong and are easy to sterilize as compared to feeders made from plastic. Their only disadvantage is that they are easily shattered when dropped.
Now coming to plastic hummingbird feeders, they are cheap compared to feeders made from glass. They are easy to handle as well but sterilization is difficult. Their disadvantage is that they tend to diss- color with age. So the plastic reservoir needs to be changed more frequently as compared to the glass reservoirs in the hummingbird feeder.

It always advisable to buy large feeders as they have more than one feeding port.
