I Live In Northern Alabama. What Kind Of Snake Is Chocolate Brown With Yellow Rings?
While cutting my lawn today i come across a snake approximately 40 to 48 inches long that was chocolate brown with yellow rings. At first i thought it was a fallen limb then as i was right over it i saw the head coil back. Fortunately i was on a riding lawn mower and swerved to miss it, so i think we just scared each other. Those yellow rings were memorable.

Identification of a snake without a picture is always difficult. Based on your area I can only think of a few snakes that are brown in color but they do not have "memorable yellow stripes." Try doing a google image search on the following snakes and see if any of them resemble what you saw: DeKay's Brown Snake and the Brown Water Snake

Maybe a copperhead...not sure was it by water or do u live by water? If so then it could have been...not sure
