What Does The Name Fiona Mean?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Fiona is a Latinised version of the Scottish Gaelic word fionn, which means "white" or "fair." It first came into use in the 18th century, and has been popular ever since, especially in Scotland. It is now better known than earlier Gaelic names with the same root, such as the Irish Fionnuala ("white-shouldered") or its Scottish variant, Finola.

Fiona is sometimes shortened to Fee.
