Your garage will check your omissions level, when a car has a mot this is checked for the government regulations.

When i bought my blazer in florida and brought it back into my home state all i did was take it to the local chevy dealership and tell them i wanted a smog check so i could get my license...it took about 30 minutes no appointment.then i took the slip they handed me to the dmv and bought my plates...now my brother in california bleeds through the nose when he has a smog check done (i think he told me it was like 800-1000 dollars to bring his vehicle up to code)...what a rip off that is more than the whole exhaust system for the car...just my 2 cents
