You Said That Protocol Used For Understanding Type Of Data, Then Why We Use Extension?

I would like to know why we use extension if protocal used for communication. Protocal tells another workstation that which type of data we are sending. But extention also says data type. Like if i send a txt file to another pc then another pc ll kno that is txt file bcaz of extention. Then y we use protocal

    Protocol can be defined as standard way of communicating across a network and it actually is the language that is understandable by the network. On the other hand, it can also be considered as a technique which makes communication possible among two dissimilar systems.
