What Does Enema Mean?

Enema is a clinical process. It is a procedure during which a certain quantity of liquid is injected inside a human rectum for cleansing bowels. The specific quantity of liquid is injected into the rectum through the anus. Enema – the process does not have any serious side effects if used sparingly, however, this procedure may cause damaging effect on people who undergo this process frequently.

Some of the side effects found in people receiving frequent enema are electrolyte imbalances – which causes dizziness, vomiting and sweating. Enemas are not advised for person's who have undergone colon or rectal surgery or have suffered a heart attack or have an irregular heartbeat. Enema is administered to relieve severe constipation or for therapeutic purposes and sometimes even to diagnose certain symptoms.
