On insect bites of any kind that leave painful or itching welts or bumps, I use the highest quantity of cortisone cream I can buy.  This seems to help a lot, and if it's applied in the exact amount of timed dosages that the label states, it will usually take care of any problems that have presented themselves after being bitten.  Of course, if you feel you're having an intensely serious reaction, or you think you're allergic to the insect bite, you should always go to the ER.  Your life is worth more than telling the ER staff that they'll have to accept time payments for their services (I've done it when I didn't have health insurance).
