Where Does A Swallow Live?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Unlike other birds that build their nests on trees and prefer a more natural nature of habitat, a swallow usually builds its nest inside of farm buildings and sometimes on ledges in old chimneys.  The ingredients that the swallow uses to make its nest consist of mud, straw and saliva.  Also feathers and wool are used to line the inside of the nest, making it more comfortable and cool to live in.

Normally swallows spend winters in South America and move by the end of March to Europe – usually when the swallows return back, they reside in the same district and even in the same nest.  The female swallow lays around four to five eggs and sits on them for around fifteen days providing them with the warmth that the eggs would require to hatch out.  Once the eggs hatch, both parents feed and nurture their little ones with insects, which they had managed to catch earlier while flying.
