How Do I Grow Strawberries?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The best time to plant strawberries is after towards the end of the monsoon season when the ground is still wet and soft. Do not plant it too deep in the ground, the young roots need sunlight and if they are packed in too tightly they will die. The soil must barely cover the roots. Strawberry must be planted in soil that has not seen tomatoes, pepper or even eggplants for the past three years.

There are different planting systems such as the matted row system or the spaced row system that can be used. In the matted row system the strawberry plants should be planted in rows at a distance of 20 to 30 inches from each other. The columns must be 4 feet apart. This will give the roots the space to sprout daughter plants. In the spaced row system the growth of the daughter plants are controlled and the unwanted ones are weeded out.
