Vitamin A is what is considered a fat soluble vitamin.  Some vitamin are water soluble and some vitamins are fat soluble.  Water soluble vitamins are less likely to build up in the body and cause harm, because we can get rid of excess easier.  Fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A can build up in the body.  When this occurs, it can be hard on the liver and sometimes people actually get orange colored skin.  I have actually seen this occur.  The person consumed large amounts of things with vitamin A on a daily basis.  Their skin had a very ill looking orange appearance.  Something like this is rare to see.  Anyway, the skin can improve after decreasing the consumption of vitamin A, but it can still be harmful to the liver and if you are pregnant, it can cause birth defects in a baby if the mother is overdoing it on vitamin A.  You really can get too much of a good thing.
