Yes, it does seem like a hemorrhoid. To be sure about your problem let me give you a brief overview about hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoid is usually referred to as a condition where the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed. They turn red and get enlarged. They develop from 2 different places. The internal veins can swell up to form internal hemorrhoids, whereas the external veins can puff out to form external hemorrhoids. Although internal hemorrhoid, unless severe, can not be seen nor felt, the external hemorrhoid can not only be seen outside anus but felt as well.
If you think it's something unusual or rare then it definitely isn't. They are very common in both men and women. In fact about 50% of the population has hemorrhoids by age 50. They may result from tension to move stool which seems to be your case, but there are other factors as well i.e. pregnancy, aging, persistent constipation or diarrhea and anal intercourse too.
In pregnancy the pressure of the child in the womb, as well as hormonal changes, cause the hemorrhoidal vessels to enlarge. However, hemorrhoids caused by pregnancy aren't permanent. So if that's your case you should simply contact your gynecologist to examine you properly and provide with some medicine to soothe vessels and your pain.
