How Do I Find Someone Who Is Good At Landscape Designing To Sort Out My Garden?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

You know it's the same story as with plumbers, plasterers, builders.  Word of mouth and personal recommendation are woth a lot, and always the first place to start.   Do you know anyone with a garden you really like, and who had professional help with creating it?  Not necessarily just a good gardener, but perhaps a landscape designer?

Technically, someone calling themselves a "landscaping designer" should be able to show that they have a degree from a university course accredited by the Landscape Institute (LI, read more).  Degrees approved by the LI techincally makes someone a Landscape Architect, and you can try to find one using the LI website.

If you get a real "landscape architect" in instead of a mere "gardener", they should be able to fully assess your garden, what plants will grow well there, and the best ways to use the space.  Junior landscape architects (just starting out) may work for as little as £10 an hour.  If you're willing to use their knowledge and ideas but do much of the donkey work yourself (or you can get someone else to do it cheap), that might be £10/hour well-spent.
