What Is The Location Of Malta, In The Mediterranean?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Republic of Malta is an island nation in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.  It consists of an archipelago of seven islands, though only the three largest islands are inhabited.  Malta lies just 93 km south of the Italian island of Sicily and is 290 km from North Africa.  Malta is east of the North African nation of Tunisia and north of Libya, also in North Africa.

The Mediterranean Sea forms part of the Atlantic Ocean and is almost completely landlocked, by Europe to the north, Africa to the south and Asia to the east.

Malta is a European nation and is that continent's 4th southernmost country, after Spain, Cyprus and Greece.  It is the smallest member of the European Union in both geographical area and population.

Malta has historically proved popular with its close geographical neighbours, with both Rome to the north and the ancient civilisation of Carthage (situated in modern-day Tunisia) to the south ruling the islands in ancient times.
