How To Ask Questions On Simple Equations?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The best way to approach any problem is to list the given information, then make a clear statement of the solution you seek, including the form you want it in.

You can read the algebra and mathematics sections of Blurtit to see how questions are asked and answered. Often, if you ask for an answer, that is all you will get. If you ask for an explanation or the sequence of steps, you are more likely to get that.

It helps immensely if you express the equation in a form that makes sense. That usually means liberal use of parentheses to identify numerators, denominators, exponents, and the operands of any functions such as square root or sine.
      Example: (3x^2 - 2x + 1)/(x + 3) = sqrt(x+4)

Be sure to give all the required information. Questions that refer to diagrams or tables cannot be answered unless you supply the diagram or table. A request to "solve" an expression or equation cannot be granted unless you tell what solution you seek. (Equations and expressions can be manipulated many ways, each representing a solution to some problem, but maybe not your problem.)
