How Does DSL Work?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

DSL also known as Digital subscriber line is the new generation of technologies which provide digital data transmission through the wires of local telephone network.

The download speed offered by DSL lines are set in the range of 128 KBS per second to 24,000 KBS. The uploading speed is generally lower to the download speed for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). ADSL technology was first used in 1988, when Joe Lechleider at Bellcore used the DSL to try out a digital signal over the unused frequency spectrum which was accessible on the twisted pair cables setup between a telephone company's central office and a consumer's house.

DSL lines were promoted on a large scale by telephone companies in the USA, when cable TV companies began large scale marketing for Broadband Internet access and VoIP telephony.
