Facet is a noun. They are smooth faces in geometric forms. The association of naturally taking place facets was solution to early progress in crystallography, in view of the fact that they replicate the fundamental equilibrium of the gemstone structure.
Gemstones generally have facets cut into them in order to progress their appearance. Of the innumerous types of facet preparations that have been used, the most eminent is perhaps the round gleaming cut, used for diamond and a lot of other colored gemstones. This agreement of 57 facets was designed by Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919. Since then only very minor improvements have been made, including the addition of a 58th facet on the base of the stone. Since this is designed to show utmost brilliance, round diamonds are hardly ever cut in any other arrangement. "Rose" cuts, are most characteristically found in antique jewelry.
