Abdominoplasty is also popularly known as a "tummy tuck". It is the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and the tightening of the muscles of the abdominal walls through a major surgical procedure. The entire surgery may take anywhere between two to five hours and cost anywhere between four to twelve thousand US$.

The procedure involves an incision being made from hipbone to hipbone; a second incision to free the navel from surrounding tissue, the skin is then separated from the abdominal wall all the way up to the rib cage. A large skin flab is lifted to reveal the vertical abdominal muscle. The muscles are then placed nearer together in a tighter position and stitched into place providing a narrower waist line and tighter abdomen. The skin is then stretched into place, excessive skin is removed, a new navel hole is cut into place and stitching performed and dressing applied. Sometimes a tube is applied temporarily to drain excess fluid from the surgery site.
