Blood pressure can be defined as a measure of the force of the blood exerted on the walls of the arteries. Low blood pressure, also known as hypotension, is an abnormal condition when the blood pressure of a person is found to be much lower than normal. A low blood pressure results in inadequate supply of blood to vital organs including the brain and heart, affecting the human body severely.

Blood pressure is often measured in a range than a particular measure, since blood pressure levels vary from person to person. A normal blood pressure falls in the range of 90/60 mm Hg to 130/80 mm Hg.

Low blood pressure maybe caused by physical factors for each individual such as rate of heart pumping, blood volume in the body, resistance by blood vessels, and viscosity or thickness of blood.

Other causes of low blood pressure include haemorrhage, toxins, sepsis and hormone abnormalities.
