What Are The Levels Of Consciousness And What Should Be Done If Such A Situation Arises?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

This is a very important question and everyone should know what immediate action to take in case they come across and unconscious person. A person can become unconscious for a number of reasons. In such cases it is not necessary to determine the reason for unconsciousness but it's important to keep the casualty alive. Therefore it is very important to recognize the level of consciousness.
The different levels are as follows
Fully conscious -person can respond to questions and conversation.
Semi dazed – response of a person is slow and can only respond to direct questions.
Dazed – the person's response to direct question is very slow and vague
Semi conscious- the casualty is drowsy, can only respond.
Stupor- person can only respond to painful stimuli e.g. when skin is pinched.
Unconscious – person makes no person at all.

Now the question is that after a person has determined the level of consciousness what he should do. The action should be to check the casualty's heart beat and breathing. After this summon medical help immediately. Check if the casualty is breathing with difficulty, remove any dentures. Remove any blood or vomit, remember choking is the greatest danger- vomit and saliva; blood or the casualty's tongue can block the airway. If breathing or heartbeat cease, resuscitate immediately.
