    You need to check the review of the car which you want to buy to know it's track record. Secondly find out the fuel economy rating. Thirdly You should know the history of the car. For detailed information, visit the links below.

      You want to make sure you aren't buying a dog. Check arround with your local mechanic shops and ask about what they would buy stay away from 96-99 dodge plymouth& chrysler, also older Ford trucks rust a lot knowing  bit about manufacturers and owner histery doesn't hurt . Generally you want an engine that doesn't leak arround the front, or sides depending on the model.. Check the fluids for abnormalities and funny smells (ie. Metallic smelling transmission fluid is ok butfruity smelling is bad)
