What Happened When Christopher Columbus Reached North America?
Answers
When Christopher Columbus and his sailing counterparts reached North America, they were under the impression that they had reached Asia and the island that they were on was an Indian island. When in actuality, it was the island of San Salvador in the Caribbean sea that they had reached, which was located in the realms of the Americas. Nevertheless the Native Americans that Columbus and his sailors came in encounter with were quite hospitable and generous and treated their new guests with respect and welcomed them by presenting them gifts that also included pieces of gold.
Seeing the gold, Columbus and his sailors got encouraged to search other nearby islands to obtain more gold. He even enslaved some Native Americans on his trip back to Spain. Later on, he made further trips to the Americas and enslaved more Native Americans, forcing them to search for gold. His cruel treatment led to the death of many Native Americans.
