I know the Egyptians used Hieroglyphics,but who else used it?

All ancient cultures even the Mayans on the other side of the world, used hieroglyphic symbols for writing. Even the Chinese and I believe the Japanese alphabet is hieroglyphics. I think the Phoenicians were the first to utilize an actual alphabet for writing.
