How Can I Apply Rouge?

Rouge, also known as Blush, is a cosmetic which is usually applied by women, to make their cheeks red and give them a youthful look.

You can apply rouge to your cheeks with the help of a brush, which normally comes with the rouge set. Traditionally, rouge was used frequently by women in ancient Egypt, but in a different manner, it was applied on the lips instead of the cheeks. During the 18th century in England, men as well as women both applied rouge.   

Over the  years many different substances have been used as rouge. In ancient Greece, crushed mulberries, red beetroot juice and crushed strawberries where used as rouges. A cream-based alternative to rouge is the schnouda, which is a dull combination of Alloxan with cold cream, which makes the skin colour red.

When applying rouge, I find it a good way to smile. This brings up the apples of your cheeks. Start near to your nose and push out the way with the brush, coming back in round the side of your face. Once done, rub the palms of your hands over the areas you have covered to blend them in.
