How Many Calories Are There In A Potato?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The number of calories in a potato varies significantly according to the potato type and the method of food preparation. Sweet potatoes are slightly more calorific than the more common white potatoes. Raw potatoes and boiled potatoes both contain about 75 calories per 100 grams, while roast potatoes have almost double that. Fried potatoes (chips) and croquettes average about 270 and 210 calories respectively per 100 grams. Crisps can be even worse, coming in at around 500 calories per 100 grams.
Potatoes are widely regarded as high calorie foods but, in fact, the toppings commonly applied to potatoes - such as butter, margarine, and bacon fragments - are often as calorie-rich as the potatoes themselves, and have helped to lower the reputation of the time-honoured spud.
