Earl Shilton is a small town. It is situated in Leicestershire. It is located in England. It lies some 4-5 miles from the town of Hinckley and about 9-10 miles from the county of Leicester. The Earl Shilton town has an estimated population of 8,500. The total area of the Earl Shilton town is 500 acres only. The name of the town means Shelf-Town.

The town was built on a land gifted by King William the Conqueror to Hugh de Grandsmensil.  It was earlier known as Scheltone and was later renamed as Earl Shilton. It is known as the Self Town because it lies on a narrow ridge which is located just to the south west of the county. In the year 1800 the population of Shilton was only a meagre 1,300.
