How Far Is It Along The Equator In Miles ?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

About 24,950 miles.  MIght be easiest to just call it 25,000.  The circumference of the approximate sphere which is the Earth is 24,900 miles in general, but it's a nudge bigger than that along the equator.  The Earth is a slightly oblate sphere, bit fatter around the middle, bit squashed around the poles.  Technically, it's called "geoid" or an ellipsoid.

Think about it, there are 24 time zones in the world,  Each about 1000 miles wide (at the equator).  Convenient that, isn't it? And helps you remember that the Earth is just a bit more than 24,000 miles all the way around.
