The word "feign" is a verb that basically means to fake or depict something falsely. It means to present a false appearance. It also means to provide false representation. It includes fabricating something, in other words lying, and imitating with the express intention to deceive. Feign was also supposed to mean to imagine or invent something, but this meaning is more or less archaic.

The word "feign" has been taken from the Middle English word "feinen" which was taken from the Old French "feindre" derived in its turn from the Latin word "fingere" meaning "to form" or "to shape".

The word "feign" can be defined as to pretend or to act or state as if true. Its synonyms include sham, affect, dissemble, pretend, assume and simulate.
