Yes, there are plenty of Chinese medicines used in treating asthma attack. Among them the most significant is ma huang or ephedra. The primary component of ephedra is ephedrine. In practice, this is actually bronchodilator which is thus used in many drugs. But, during 2004, the U.S government has banned the production of ephedra as it has shown numerous critical side-effects such as increasing blood pressure, stress in circulatory system, stroke and heart attack in some cases. Ginkgo is another traditional Chinese medicine that reduces the frequency of asthma attack.

Other herbal products that are used in treating asthma attack may include thyme, nettle, elecampane, mullein, feverfew, passionflower, saw palmetto, and Asian ginseng. Apart from that, both coffee and tea have the ability to reduce the intensity of asthma attack as they both contain caffeine and theophylline respectively working as bronchodilator. In Ayurveda, the herb Tylophora asthmatica is used in treating the attack of asthma.
