It is possible. Chocolate is deadly for dogs, and depending upon how much he ate, he could possibly die. If your dog has eaten chocolate, get him to a vet immediately.

To my knowledge and from experience it's pretty much based on size and weight and how much they ate. I'm not suggesting that there aren't exceptions to the rule though. We had a 50 lb dog. A few Christmas's before he passed I had some mini-dark chocolates in a dish on the table in the living room. There were about 15 or so. We went next door for about ten minutes. When we came back Sam had eaten every one of them! We watched him closely for awhile. Took him outside to do his business and checked his stool. It wasn't runny. We didn't see any outward changes. We probably got off lucky! But, that happened three times throughout his life.
