How Do I Fit A Saddle?

Answer Question

4 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Firstly, any saddle, new or second hand should be fitted by a member of the Society of Master Saddlers. If you need to make use of a numnah or a gel pad, then you must inform the saddle fitter at the time of enquiry. Every horse should possess its own saddle, as in time a saddle adapts itself to the shape of the horse. Feed your saddle with care. Leather which is not sufficiently treated may dry out. Take the advice of a qualified saddle fitter in everything that do regarding the horse and his saddle.

Special care must be taken to fit a young horse. His back is young and vulnerable. Also, do not purchase a standard purpose saddle as it would simply be compromising the whole exercise.

The saddle is seat which has a raised ridge both at the front and also at the back. It is mounted on the horse's back in such that it can be used by riders as a seat. It is one of the most expensive things you will buy for. It is also very difficult to fit the saddle. Saddle can be comfortable for the rider but it should also be comfortable for the horses. It is also very important to decide on the type of the saddle that you will be using for your horse.

To fit the saddle on to the horse, you will have to measure it from the nail head and heading towards the centre of the candle. You can checkout the size of the saddle you require by going through the available saddles. Avoid saddles which do not fit properly because it may harm the back of the horse and cause backache. The saddle is fit in such a way that there is a space to insert three fingers both at the front and at the back of the seat, when you are seated on the saddle.
