Are The Village People Still Together?

The Village people are still together and performed as recently as September 2006. The Village People were a novelty disco band and were worldwide sensations during the heyday of disco in the late 70s. The group was put together to attract gay audiences, while parodying the gay communities stereotypes itself. They were known for their outrageous on-stage attire as well as for the catchy tunes and highly suggestive lyrics. The members dressed as a police officer, a construction worker, an American Indian chief, a navy officer, a leatherman, and a cowboy.

The Village People first clicked in England with the release of "San Francisco" in 1977, after which they went on to reap stateside honors with "Macho Man" the following year. "Y.M.C.A." and "In the Navy" brought them worldwide success, both touching the number two position on the pop charts. "Go West" and "Can't Stop the Music," gave tehm two more hits, following which their fortunes began to decline.
