27 seems excessively low for menopause, your best bet though if your having problems related to such areas, go see your gyno as soon as you can, or at least a physician.

There can be several reasons. Stress is the number one reason to miss a period. It can be light or not even occur. If you have to much stress the body signals that it is not the right time to conceive and therefore does not produce the lining and/or blood to line the wall. Then the next month you still have what little was produced plus the full period and your body has to of course get rid of more. I.e. More bloating which causes more cramping and irritability along with constipation.
Other causes can be Thyroid disease hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (under active), endometriosis,  fibroid tumors,  infections,  Stds, ect.  Being very athletic can stop a period for short and long lengths of time. Birth control was actually used to control the period not prevent pregnancy, that is just a side affect. If you are on it, get your blood checked to make sure you are on the right dosage.
Yes, you could be having a miscarriage. More women have them than they realize. A delayed period, a short/light period followed by a long/rough one.
If you have growths & polyps, then the body produces more blood to cover all the new surfaces and can lead to prolonged painful bleeding but this does not sound like what you have.
The best thing to do if your next period does not go back to normal, or this pattern of light followed by heavy continues then you need to see an OBGYN.

27 yrs old is really too early to start menopause, you should see your doctor to make sure you're not pregnant or something else that could be causing your irregular cycle. God bless.
